Three MassBay Men’s Basketball Players Named to NJCAA Region 21 All-Region Team for the 2022-2023 Season

WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (April 3, 2023) — Three MassBay Men’s Basketball players have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 21 All-Region Team for the 2022-2023 season. Mason Lawson of Boston, MA was named to the All-Region 2nd team, Crisrael Lithgow of Revere, MA earned a 3rd team honor, and Lewiss Garcia-Martinez of Revere, MA was selected as an honorable mention recipient.

First-year guard Mason Lawson was second in scoring this season for the MassBay Buccaneers, averaging 15.6 points per game. He led the team with 5.5 assists per game, ranking him #3 in the region. During a game on February 4, 2023, Lawson knocked down two free throws with no time remaining in overtime to lift the Bucs to a 103-101 victory over Springfield Tech, a game which he netted a career high 31 points. Lawson studies Business Administration.

Crisrael Lithgow, a second-year guard, was MassBay’s third leading scorer on the team, averaging 13.7 points per game. The second-year student scored a career high 38 points on January 31, 2023, against Bristol Community College, and knocked down a game winning three-point shot at the buzzer to defeat Bunker Hill Community College, sending the Bucs to the Region 21 semi-finals on February 25, 2023. Lithgow studies Business Administration.

Second-year forward, Lewiss Garcia-Martinez led the Bucs in rebounds, averaging 7.5 rebounds per game, which was the 12th most rebounds in the region. He was also the second on the team in field goal percentage, shooting 48.9% this season. Garcia Martinez also studies Business Administration.

The MassBay Buccaneers finished the season with a 15-11 record (14-9 Region 21 record) and made their first appearance in the regional semi-finals since the 2016-2017 season.
