Kate Basch

Career Coach

Kate Basch joined MassBay in April 2015 as a Career Coach. In her role at MassBay, she helps students to develop strong job search skills and find satisfying work. Kate has a Master’s degree in Expressive Therapies and Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University and a Bachelor’s degree in Government and American Studies from Wesleyan University.

Elizabeth Blumberg

Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Student

Dr. Liz Blumberg has been at MassBay since 2000, where she first served as the Director of Counseling Services. Dr. Blumberg received her Bachelor’s degree from William Smith College, her Master’s Degree from Wesleyan University and Tufts University and her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.

Vanessa Cajuste

Vanessa Cajuste Vanessa Cajuste As a MassBay student, Vanessa Cajuste thrived with the help and support of the MassBay community. After graduating from MassBay in 2016, Vanessa wanted to pay it forward by working at her alma mater. She joined MassBay as an Administrative Assistant in Student Development in May, 2018. Vanessa received her Associate Degree in General Business and Certificate in Management from MassBay in 2017 is now earning her Bachelor of Science degree through the FSU at MassBay program.

Josh Cheney

Assistant Dean of Students

Josh Cheney Josh Cheney Josh Cheney is the Assistant Dean of Students at MassBay Community College. Josh serves as the Student Development staff member for the Framingham and Ashland campus.
Josh provides direct services to students outside of the classroom, including general counseling, crisis intervention, educational programming and student conduct. Josh earned his undergraduate (Hotel & Restaurant Management) and master’s degree (Industrial/Organizational Psychology) at the University of New Haven, in West Haven, CT. Josh has been working with college students since his first year as a Resident Assistant in 1996.

Katie Cronmiller

Assistant Coordinator of Student Engagement

Katie Cronmiller joined MassBay in March of 2018 as the Assistant Coordinator of Student Engagement, and works with student programming, the Student Government Association and other clubs and organizations on campus to support learning outside of the classroom. She received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and her Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Gary Donato

Veteran and Military Services

Gary Donato has been with MassBay since 2007. He earned his PhD in Political Science and Diplomatic History from the University of Connecticut in 2005. He also has a Master’s degree in Social Science from Syracuse University and a Master’s equivalent in Strategy and Policy from the Naval War College. Dr. Donato is a retired Naval Officer with numerous awards and commendations. For the last 20 years he has been an Adjunct Professor of history and government on the faculty list of several colleges in eastern Connecticut, western Rhode Island and south eastern Massachusetts. For relaxation Gary reads medieval romance literature and biographies, gardens — he skis, hikes, enjoys yoga, and scuba dives.

Jon Edwards

Director of Counseling Services

Jon Edwards is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a graduate of Assumption College’s Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. Jon began working in the mental health field in 1996 as a Counselor in a residential rehabilitation treatment program for adults and later worked as a Counselor in the Student Development and Counseling Center at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Jon came to MassBay in September of 2004 and enjoys working with the diverse needs of our students.

Julie Ginn

Director of Career and Internship Services

Julie Ginn has been the Director of Career & Internship Services at MassBay since 2008. Julie’s education and work experience have given her a broad background in counseling and guiding others toward achieving their academic and personal goals. Her past roles include working in urban environments as a high school English teacher, minority transfer counselor, college preparatory director, life skills teacher, and student success programs director. She has worked primarily with prospective first generation college students, helping them deal with the realities and challenges of career planning and building. Julie also oversees MassBay’s mentoring programs on and off campus. Julie has a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Johnson & Wales University and a Master’s degree in Education from Suffolk University.

Kelly Graska

Administrative Assistant

Kelly Graska joined MassBay as an Administrative Assistant in September of 2014. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology from Roanoke College in 2006. Prior to MassBay, Kelly worked in Administration at Boston University and spent two years as a Social Worker in Philadelphia preceding that. Kelly enjoys traveling to Vermont and California, with her husband and son, to visit their families.

Jessica Post

Personal Counselor

Jessica Post received her Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1997. Upon graduating she worked at Boysville of Michigan with individuals and their families in the residential treatment program. In Massachusetts, Jessica worked at Children's Hospital Boston starting in 1999 as the Social Worker in the Endocrine Program working with individuals with diabetes and other chronic medical conditions. In September 2016, Jessica started at MassBay as the Personal Counselor on the Framingham Campus and she is inspired every day by the incredible array of strengths of the Mass Bay student body.

Marie Hahs

Coordinator of Veteran and Military Services

Marie Hahs Marie Hahs Marie Hahs has worked at MassBay in a number of roles including Career Counseling, Academic Advising and testing. Presently, she utilizes all of this knowledge and experience to assist Student Veterans, Active Military, Reservists and dependents of Veterans in their pursuit of higher education. The transition from Military to civilian life to higher education can be challenging and VA and GI Bill rules, daunting. Marie holds a Master in Education and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Northeastern University.

Slader Lyell

Associate Director of Athletics

Slader Lyell is the Assistant Athletic Director for varsity sports, club sports, and the Recreation and Wellness Center at MassBay. He first joined the athletics department as an assistant basketball coach and head golf coach at MassBay in 2016. Slader previously worked as an athletic director for two local schools and as an assistant basketball coach at Rhode Island College. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Clark University. Slader enjoys spending time with his family and traveling outside of work.

Adam Nelson

Director of Athletics

Adam Nelson Adam Nelson Adam Nelson joined the MassBay staff in May 2016 where he first served as the Associate Director of Athletics, Recreation & Wellness. Adam has over twenty years of experience in college athletics, having served as an NCAA DI Assistant Basketball Coach and an NCAA DIII Head Basketball Coach. He also spent ten years as an Assistant Director of Athletics at a DIII school and has successfully run his own business in the sports media world. Adam is a Boston College graduate who enjoys travelling in his spare time with his wife and four kids.

Shaquan Read

Wellness Coordinator

ShaQuan Read joined MassBay in January 2009 and has served students in several different roles on campus. As the Wellness Educator, she partners with community members to provide training and support in sexual health & sexual violence prevention, alcohol and other drug education, basic needs (food and housing security), and other areas related to health and wellness. In addition to working in Student Development, she is an adjunct psychology faculty member at MassBay. ShaQuan earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a Trauma Specialization from Lesley University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Julie Schleicher

Coordinator of Orientation and Student Engagement

Julie Schleicher has been working in Student Affairs for 15 years and has been with MassBay for almost 10 of those years. During her time in the field of higher education, she has developed a true passion for student affairs and believes in promoting student development through campus involvement. Julie received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Bridgewater State College and her Master’s degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs from Salem State College. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her 2 year old son and husband.

Monica Signorino

Administrative Assistant

Monica Signorino began her journey at MassBay as a student in January 2015. As a student, she served as a Peer Tutor, Orientation Leader and Student Coordinator of Orientation and graduated with her Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts. In summer 2018, Monica continued her service at MassBay as substitute Coordinator of Orientation and now works in Student Development as an Administrative Assistant.

Ann Whelan

Associate Director of Counseling Services

Ann Whelan Ann Whelan Ann Whelan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University. She also received advanced training in psychotherapy from The Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. She has been at MassBay since 2006.

Richard Williams

Assistant Dean of Student Success

Richard Williams is the Assistant Dean of Student Success, and has been at MassBay since 2016. He works with faculty and staff on various initiatives to help students achieve their goals. Richard has a JD from the University of Texas School of Law and an MFA in fiction writing from Emerson College.
