Foundation For MetroWest

Foundation For MetroWest logo Foundation for MetroWest was founded in 1995 with a simple philosophy: You can make a world of difference in your own backyard.

Foundation for MetroWest supports MassBay’s Meal Scholarship program. To date, the Foundation for MetroWest has provided more than $40,000 in grant funds to support MassBay’s food insecurity initiatives, as well as additional funding to support the College’s Institute of Trauma, Adversity, and Resilience and emergency funding.

“I am a single mother of three and SNAP assistance helps feed my kids. I was lucky to be part of this scholarship last semester and it helped me be able to eat. I was able to have lunch and not worry about taking anything away from my kids’ food stamps.”

— Alicia, Meal Scholarship Program Recipient

One Family

One Family One Family Incorporated, of Waltham, offers two programs that aim to prevent family homelessness. They seek to break the cycle of family poverty in Massachusetts by promoting pathways to economic independence though advocacy, education, and innovation.

They sponsor the One Family Scholars program for low-income single parents enrolled in associate or bachelor’s degree programs at colleges and universities in Massachusetts. One Family provides comprehensive individualized coaching coupled with other supports to enable these students to reach their goals. In addition to coaching, One Family Scholars receive both a scholarship that helps to offset the direct costs of college (tuition and fees) and a stipend to help with indirect costs (books, supplies and living expenses).

Since partnering with One Family, numerous MassBay students have been selected to the One Family Scholars program. According to MassBay President David Podell, “The One Family Scholarship will provide them with the much-needed financial support to finish their degree and open a world of additional opportunities for themselves and their children.”

“Never thinking a college degree would be an obtainable goal for me, I now see it is and I can finally achieve my dreams of becoming a college graduate,” said Ramos. “My son inspires me every day, never letting his disease stop him from anything. The One Family Scholarship is allowing me to focus on my son and my studies without the financial stress that college can create. I will forever be grateful to this organization for securing my educational and financial future.”

Temple Beth Elohim

Temple Beth Elohim Temple Beth Elohim is a Reform Jewish congregation in Wellesley of nearly 1,300 families. As part of the MassBay Meals by TBE Table program, volunteers prepare 120 meals every other week, freeze them, and deliver them to MassBay. The College safely stores the meals and discreetly distribute them to students experiencing food insecurity.

One student who has received meals from the program said, “Before I started receiving these meals through the MassBay Meals program, I was not eating much food throughout the day. I would only eat maybe once a day, usually during lunch, to ensure my son was eating the little food we had. I am very grateful for MassBay, the TBE Table program, and for the meals that provide me and my son the nourishment we need.”

Since August 2021, the volunteer based TBE Table has been producing an estimated 500 meals each month and distributing them to partner organizations throughout the Greater Boston area to help combat food insecurity.
