WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (May 31, 2023) — For the second consecutive year, Tahlia Butler of Bedford, MA, has been selected to sing the national anthem at the 61st Commencement Exercises of MassBay Community College, held Thursday, May 25, 2023, on its Wellesley Hills campus.

“I am excited for the opportunity to represent the students of MassBay, cheer on my friends that are graduating, and honor our 2023 graduates,” said Butler. “It is also amazing to be collaborating with The Wellesley Symphony Orchestra once again!” The Wellesley Symphony Orchestra has been MassBay’s orchestra-in-residence since 1984.

Butler has always loved to be involved in the theater and singing, participating in the choir programs in her middle and high schools. Since starting at MassBay in the fall of 2021, Butler has been involved in campus life. She has been a senator and student representative in the Student Government Association, the former president of the MassBay Film Society, a peer mentor, a mentee in the STEM Mentor Program, and a student ambassador for the Students of Color Program. In addition, she participated in MassBay’s Leadership Engagement and Development (LEAD) program in 2022, and has been and continues to be an advocate for mental health, especially amongst her peers.

Butler is a General Studies major at MassBay with plans to transfer this fall to pursue her bachelor’s degree in biology with a focus on neuroscience and psychology.
