MassBay Graduate Delivered Student Commencement Address

WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (May 30, 2023) — MassBay Community College Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) graduate, Alexandra Todorov, delivered the student commencement address at MassBay’s 61st Commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 25, 2023, on the Wellesley Hills campus.

“When I was notified that I was selected to give the student commencement address, I was shocked and honored,” said Todorov. “I had hoped my fellow graduates felt a sense of empowerment from my address, and I felt that I accomplished that through our collective stories of resilience and strength.”

Todorov focused her address on encouraging her peers to use their voices to embark on being their authentic and resilient selves while giving gratitude for the strength and persistence through adversity they have faced. Her words were met with great applause from the MassBay class of 2023.

Todorov came to MassBay during the pandemic to study in the College’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and “had such a great experience”, she wanted to continue her studies in the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. While at MassBay, she was a member of the nursing club and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. Some of her favorite memories at MassBay were participating in the on-campus blood drive to benefit Boston’s Children’s Hospital, preparing meals for families facing housing insecurity, coordinating an informational table on sexual violence for national sexual violence awareness month, and volunteering with other nursing club members and nursing faculty at the start of the Boston Marathon. Todorov is a passionate advocate for survivors of domestic violence, having participated in many MassBay workshops to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge to help her future patients.

Todorov earned her Associate of Science in Nursing degree at the College’s commencement ceremony. Her long-term goals include transferring to a local four-year university to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing starting in the fall 2023 and eventually working as a nurse in domestic violence services. In a few weeks, she will begin working as a Registered Nurse at a local hospital.
