Thursday, October 29, 2020

WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (October 29, 2020) — MassBay Community College earned two Medallions of Excellence awards by regional members of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) for its outstanding work in marketing and communications to promote and advance MassBay. The winners were selected from hundreds of entries submitted in 38 categories and announced at NCMPR’s District 1 virtual award ceremony on October 29, 2020.

MassBay won a Gold Medallion for the College’s Communication Success Story about MassBay 2020 graduate and Framingham, MA bus driver, Clayton Ward. Ward, who was inspired to return to the classroom by the students riding his school bus, earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and graduated in just one year. His motivational story was shared and featured in regional, national, and international news outlets including The MetroWest Daily News, WCVB Channel 5, Good Morning America, CNN, Daily Mail TV, New York Post, People.com, The Telegraph, Yahoo News, Good News Network, and the Framingham Source.

MassBay was awarded the Bronze Medallion for the Video (long-form) category for its “This is MassBay” promotional video. This fast-paced video included short interviews, personal stories, and quotes from students, alumni, faculty, and staff describing what makes MassBay such a strong community and a special place to study and work. Featured throughout the video are glimpses into classes and labs at our campuses in Ashland, Framingham, and Wellesley Hills. This video was directed by MassBay’s Marketing and Communications Office and shot and edited by Communique No. 1 Productions.

“All of us who work at MassBay are all fortunate to be engaged in supporting the mission of our community college,” said MassBay President, Dr. David Podell. “Our team tells the compelling and inspirational stories of our faculty, staff, and especially our students, who leave us to become successful career-minded individuals, helping shape and strengthen our local economy. These awards show the depth of talent of our Marketing and Communication Team at MassBay and their commitment to our institution.”

Medallions typically are awarded at the in-person district conferences and honor outstanding achievement in design and communications for marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges. This year, the NCMPR District 1 conference was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, so the awards were presented virtually. NCMPR is the only organization of its kind that exclusively represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges, recognizes and awards professional excellence, and provides its members with professional development opportunities.

MassBay Community College is ranked by the Brookings Institution as one of the top schools for value added and earned salaries in the workforce. Ranked #1 for two-year colleges in Massachusetts, #2 in New England, and #16 nationally. The College’s facilities in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland house day, evening and weekend classes that meet the needs of degree-seeking students and career minded life-long learners. Online options provide convenience and allow faculty to facilitate the learning process. Since its founding in 1961, MassBay has been accredited by several governing bodies and strives to meet the needs of the diverse local communities it serves.
