MassBay Announces Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington as 60th Commencement Speaker

WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (May 9, 2022) — MassBay Community College is pleased to announce Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington as the keynote speaker for the College’s 60th Commencement on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the College’s Wellesley Hills campus.

“Dr. Washington’s life’s work is closely aligned with the equity agenda we have been vigorously pursuing here at MassBay, so his Commencement address will be especially relevant to our graduates,” said MassBay President David Podell. “We are delighted to welcome such a dynamic and accomplished educator to deliver the keynote address to our graduates during our Commencement exercises this year.”

Rev. Dr. Washington is the President and Founder of the Washington Consulting Group and has been named as one of the Top 10 Global Diversity Consultants in the world by The Economist. He currently serves as the pastor of Unity Fellowship Church of Baltimore and is an elder in the Unity Fellowship Church Movement. For more than 36 years, Dr. Washington has worked as an educator, administrator, and consultant in higher education, working with an extensive list of corporate, non-profit, government, and faith organization clients. Dr. Washington serves as an invited instructor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Lancaster Theological Seminary. He is the president and co-founder of the Social Justice Training Institute and a past president of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).

Dr. Washington received a Bachelor of Science degree from Slippery Rock State College and earned double Master of Science degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington. He also holds a Ph.D. in College Student Development from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Master of Divinity degree from the Howard University School of Divinity. He has received many awards and honors including an honorary Doctor of Business Administration from Shepherd University in West Virginia and the 2020 Annuit Coeptis Senior Leader Award from ACPA. Dr. Washington is also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key, Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Delta Kappa, and a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Dr. Washington is a resident of Maryland and is the proud grandfather to seven and a great uncle to eight.
