Form 1098-T Tax Information

MassBay is required to provide copies of the Form 1098-T to any student who paid qualified educational expenses in the preceding tax year. Qualified expenses include tuition and tuition related fees that are required for enrollment.

How can I receive a copy of my Form 1098-T?

At the end of January, a copy of Form 1098-T will be mailed to any student* who paid qualified educational expenses in the preceding tax year. To receive an electronic copy of your Form 1098-T, please email bursar@massbay.edu from your MassBay Student Email Address and we will reply back to you with a copy of your Form 1098T via email.
*Please note that your Form 1098-T cannot be generated if you have not provided MassBay with your social security number or tax identification number. To verify that we have this information, please review your Bay Navigator account under: Self Service > Campus Personal Information > Demographic Information.

If there is an error on your 1098-T, or you have not received a copy of Form 1098-T, please contact the Student Accounts Office via e-mail at bursar@massbay.edu.

Request for Tax Form W-9S Tax ID Number

To add or update your social security or tax id number, please submit the W-9S form found at: W9 Request for Student Taxpayer ID Number . General tax information can be found at www.irs.gov .

Tax Form 1098 T is not required to be filed or furnished for the following students

  • Students enrolled in non credit courses Courses that do not offer academic credit, even if the student is enrolled in a degree program.
  • Students whose qualified tuition and related expenses are fully covered by financial aid. This includes situations where all charges are waived or paid entirely by scholarships, federal grants, or state grants such as MassEducate and MassReconnect.
  • Students whose qualified tuition and related expenses are paid through a third party billing arrangement. This includes employer-sponsored billing or agreements with government agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, MassAbility, and similar entities.
