What Sonographers Do

Sonographers are more than technical operators; they also assume the critical role of diagnosticians. To effectively fulfill this diagnostic responsibility, sonographers must possess an in-depth comprehension of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

This knowledge combined with extensive hands-on clinical experience empowers them to discern and evaluate ultrasound images in real-time to reach a probable diagnosis by applying their clinical judgement.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a challenging and rewarding career well suited for individuals who enjoy science, technology, and patient interaction in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Our Program

MassBay's Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography combines classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and supervised clinical experiences to prepare students for careers in medical imaging. The program emphasizes high-quality patient care, technical excellence, and professional standards of practice. In addition, the curriculum is designed to strengthen students’ leadership skills, ethical decision-making, and civic responsibility, preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to their workplaces and communities.

Program Goals
