Communication: About Us

Whether you want to work in media, marketing, public relations, human resources, politics, or business - a communication degree gives you a strong foundation for almost any career.

Being a Communication Major

As a communication major, you’ll study how messages are created, delivered, and understood in different settings, whether that’s face-to-face, online, through media, or in professional environments. In this major, you’ll learn skills like public speaking, writing, active listening, and critical thinking. You’ll practice and improve your interpersonal communication skills (communicating between two or more people) and you’ll also explore how communication affects culture, relationships, and business.

Whether you want to work in media, marketing, public relations, human resources, politics, or business - a communication degree gives you a strong foundation for almost any career.

The communication major can be completed in-person or online.

Program Requirements

To complete the Communication major, you must complete three required communication courses: Introduction to Communication, Oral Communication, and Introduction to Mass Media.

In addition to the three required courses, you will choose additional Communication electives in your area of interest. For a full listing of the current program electives, refer to the communication curriculum sheet. We also suggest speaking with a MassBay advisor.
