AC policies are designed to provide the highest level of support while helping students become independent learners. Please do not hesitate to contact us at aac@massbay.edu with any questions.
For Testing Services guidelines, please see the Testing page.
Editing vs. helping: Learning specialists and writing tutors help writers learn how to improve their own sentence-level skills, showing students how to correct their own papers while being careful not to violate academic integrity by editing papers for them.
Food and drink: Students may bring snacks and covered drinks into the AAC, but we ask that they not have food at the computers.
Grading: Learning specialists and tutors work with students to improve their grades but are unable to grade work or predict assignment grades.
No-shows: Students who are unable to keep a scheduled appointment or who are running late should call 781-239-2632 in Wellesley or 508-270-4213 in Framingham. Please give 24 hours’ notice for cancellations when possible. Students who miss multiple appointments without canceling may be asked to use drop-in services only.
Number of appointments per week: We welcome all MassBay students to make up to two hours of appointments each week in the Reading/Writing Center and Peer Tutoring, as appointments are available. Appointments may be booked up to two weeks in advance.
Plagiarism: If learning specialists or tutors notice plagiarism in student papers, we talk with students about how to present their work ethically and help them learn how to document sources appropriately.
Take-home quizzes/exams: Learning specialists and tutors are happy to assist students with take-home quizzes or tests when given specific written permission from the instructor for that class.
Unsupervised children: Children are welcome in the AAC when accompanied by adult guardians. For their own safety, children may not be left unsupervised in the AAC.
