Bio: In 2001, Shaun Morand entered his sophomore year at Briarwood College when the attacks on September 11th happened. Feeling the need to do something, he and a friend headed towards New York City to volunteer in any way they could. Shaun and his friend were unable to get close to Ground Zero, choosing instead to help give out water and masks to first responders in the surrounding areas close to the former site of the twin towers.

Following those attacks, Shaun decided to leave college and enlist in the Army to serve his country, first in the Connecticut National Guard, and then as part of the 25th Infantry Division. He has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan to fight in the Global War on Terror and was medically retired from the Natick Soldier Systems Center due to combat injuries sustained in Iraq. Shaun began classes at MassBay after retiring. He has become involved in supporting local veteran’s charities and has participated in a 200-mile ruck march from Boston to New York City’s Ground Zero to raise awareness of veteran suicides.
