Classic Comfort — Oldies That Heal
As trauma-informed care has evolved, there’s growing recognition that trauma is not just psychological — it’s also stored in the body. Bessel van der Kolk, in The Body Keeps the Score, explains that “traumatized people chronically feel unsafe inside their bodies” (2015, p. 97). With this understanding, somatic approaches like trauma-informed yoga (TIY) have gained traction. Rooted in the connection of mind and body, yoga offers a way to regulate discomfort through breath and movement, making it a powerful tool in trauma recovery.
