PRINCIP & METHOD OF PHLEBOTOMY

This course is designed to explore the history of phlebotomy and the development of current practice. Course materials include an introduction to the clinical laboratory and associated topics necessary for the phlebotomist to work in a clinical laboratory. Students will be introduced to a variety of health care settings. Students will explore anatomy and physiology of the vascular system, venous and capillary specimen procurement, pediatric and geriatric blood drawing, blood donor collection, electrocardiograph (EKG) procedures, microbiological specimen
collection, and glucose testing. Lecture: 3 hours per week. Lab: 3 hours per week.
