MassBay Fun Facts: Orientation Leader, One Family Scholar

Bio: Danielle Ramos started taking sciences classes at MassBay after her son, Kymoni, was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and she wanted to learn more about how this disease would affect his body.  She quickly realized she wanted to make her career path in the healthcare industry and specifically in Surgical Technology.

Danielle was nervous to start her college career again, after attending a for-profit college that abruptly closed leaving the single mother in debt with no degree and little options for continuing her education. She entered MassBay and with her new found excitement for her courses she decided to earn a certificate in Surgical Technology and her Associate Degree in General Studies. Danielle credits her success to the guidance and support she received from the staff in the Student Development Office and Professor Nancy Railsback in Early Childhood Education.

Danielle also became a One Family Scholar, who support single parents while they earn their college degrees. She gives credit to the One Family Organization for allowing her to focus on her son and her studies without the financial stress of her college courses.

Danielle is currently working at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick as a Certified Surgical Technician. She will be attending Framingham State University in the fall to pursue her bachelor degree in healthcare.
