Scholarships for New MassBay Students

The MassBay Foundation and our generous donors provide a variety of scholarships for new, incoming students. All require an application and other documents be submitted to the MassBay Foundation. The applications are available using the links below.
The deadline for submitting scholarship applications for the Fall 2022 semester is August 19, 2022

Please be advised that scholarship money is disbursed to students as a reimbursement, after you have enrolled and paid your semester bill.

How to Fill In PDF Applications

To fill out these applications on your computer, click on link to the application form. You will see the application form open in a new window. Click the “download” icon [ ] you see on the upper right of the window with the application. It will download a PDF to the Downloads folder of your computer. Double-click the file, open it in Acrobat Reader, and click the button on the right side that says Fill & Sign. Type into the application form fields with your computer keyboard. Please print out the form and mail it to the address listed.

Mashrufa Alam & Abu M.Z. Alam Scholarship

Created and funded by the generosity of Mashrufa Alam and Abu M.Z. Alam, this scholarship was created to support students declaring a major or certificate in: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Technology, Nursing, Physician Assistant, Laboratory Technician, or other applied Science subjects. Students from Bangladesh are encouraged to apply.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits in college level classes
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 from high school
  • 250-300 word essay explaining how character and hard work will help you achieve your goals

AWARD: $3,500 per semester for two consecutive semesters at MassBay. The recipient must be enrolled in 12 college level classes and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to receive the second semester award. The second semester award is dependent upon funding.

Automotive Technology Scholarship

This scholarship opportunity was established to assist students enrolled in any of the MassBay Automotive Technology Programs with tuition, mandatory fees, tools and/or books. $500 and $1000 scholarship(s) are awarded for the fall semester.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • United States resident
  • Enrolled in an Automotive Technology Program
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits in award semester

AWARD: $500-$1000 scholarships are awarded for the fall semester. This scholarship may be used for tuition, mandatory fees, tools, and books.

DACA Scholarship

The DACA Scholarship fund was created and is supported through gifts to the MassBay Community College Foundation from alumni and friends of the College.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • Graduating senior from a high school accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Education
  • Declared DACA status
  • GPA of 2.6 or higher
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits in award semester
  • A two paragraph essay 250-300 words essay sharing your journey to MassBay and your goals for the future

Dual Enrollment Scholarship

This scholarship was established to support a junior or senior that is either home schooled or enrolled in a high school in MassBay’s service area. Cities and towns include: Ashland, Bellingham, Belmont, Brookline, Dedham, Dover, Franklin, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Medway, Medfield, Millis, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norfolk, Norwood, Sherborn, Sudbury, Waltham, Watertown, Wayland, Wellesley, Weston, Westwood, and Wrentham. A $500 scholarship is awarded for the fall or spring semester to a high school junior or senior enrolled in the MassBay Dual Enrollment Program.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • Enrolled in a MassBay service area high school or home schooled
  • Minimum high school cumulative GPA 2.5
  • Enrolled in MassBay Dual Enrollment Program
  • Registered in a college-level course in the fall or spring semester at MassBay

AWARD: A $500 scholarship is awarded for the fall or spring semester to a high school junior or senior in MassBay’s service area enrolled in MassBay Dual Enrollment Program. This scholarship may be used for tuition, mandatory fees, and books.

Ferris Family Scholarship

The Ferris Family Scholarship was established by Howard Ferris, former Dean of the Automotive Technology Program, to assist new or returning, full-time or part-time students with tuition, tools and/or books who are enrolled in the MassBay Automotive Technology Program. This scholarship is offered in the Fall semester only.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • Enrolled in a MassBay service area high school or home schooled
  • Declared major of an Automotive Technology Program
  • Enrolled full-time or part-time student
  • 100 word essay explaining why you are interested in receiving this scholarship

First Generation Student Scholarship

MassBay welcomes students who are the first in their family to attend college and supports them throughout their time with us.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • Graduating senior from a high school accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Education
  • GPA of 2.6 or higher
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits in award semester
  • A two paragraph essay 250-300 words essay sharing your journey to MassBay and your goals for the future

Incoming STEM Student Scholarship

MassBay is known for its STEM program and welcomes incoming students into its program.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • High school graduate from a school accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Education
  • Delcared STEM major enrolled in at least 9 credits at MassBay
  • Cumulative GPA >2.7 at graduating high school, and must maintain this GPA to receive the second semester of the award
  • 150 word essay on how this scholarship will help you move forward in your career path

STEM Mentor Program Scholarship — All STEM Majors

This scholarship supports a STEM Division student pursuing an Associate Degree or Certificate. The student must be an active participant in the STEM Mentor Program.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Declared STEM major pursuing Associate Degree or Certificate
  • Participates actively in the STEM Mentor Program (e.g. attended Kick-off Reception, planning meetings with mentor)
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher (for returning students)
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 7 credits in the award semester
  • Submit a 250-300 word essay explaining your journey to MassBay and how this scholarship would help you achieve your academic goals.
  • One paragraph email from mentor to STEM Mentor Program Manager (tgustafson@massbay.edu) acknowledging that the mentee has met with their mentor at least once and has identified areas to work on and/or activities to participate in together.

STEM Mentor Program Scholarship | All STEM Majors

STEM Mentor Program Scholarship — Science majors

This scholarship supports a STEM Division student pursuing an Associate Degree in a science major (Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences & Safety, or General Studies (AS)). The student must be an active participant in the STEM Mentor Program.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Declared STEM major pursuing Associate Degree or Certificate in a science major.
  • Participates actively in the STEM Mentor Program (e.g. attended Kick-off Reception, planning meetings with mentor)
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher (for returning students)
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 7 credits in the award semester

John F. McKenzie Scholarship

John F. McKenzie was the founding President of MassBay Community College in 1961, and served as President until his retirement in 1983. This scholarship was established to support a graduating senior from a public high school in MassBay’s service area. Cities and towns include: Ashland, Bellingham, Belmont, Brookline, Dedham, Dover, Franklin, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Medway, Medfield, Millis, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norfolk, Norwood, Sherborn, Sudbury, Waltham, Watertown, Wayland, Wellesley, Weston, Westwood, and Wrentham. A $500 scholarship is awarded for the fall semester to one graduating high school senior from each city and town in MassBay’s service area.

  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • Graduating senior from a public high school accredited in MassBay’s service area

John F. McKenzie
Scholarship Application

Johnny Appleseed Scholarship

Created through the generosity of the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, the Johnny Appleseed Scholarship awards students from the foundation's service area as they pursue an education at MassBay Community College. Preference will be given to students who are pursuing degrees not available at their local community college.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Must live in one of the following towns: Ashburnham, Ashby, Athol, Ayer, Barre, Bolton, Clinton, Devens, Erving, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Harvard, Hubbardston, Lancaster, Leominster, Littleton, Lunenburg, New Salen, Orange, Pepperell, Petersham, Phillipston, Princeton, Royalston, Shirley, Sterling, Templeton (Baldwinville), Townsend, Warwick, Wendell, Westminster, Winchendon
  • GPA of 2.5 and above
  • Please submit a 250 word essay explaining how this scholarship will help your reach your career goals. Your essay is a reviewer's primary vehicle to determine scholarship recipients, please do your best to directly answer the prompt.

Robert and Rosemary Murphy Scholarship

This scholarship was established in the memory of Robert and Rosemary Murphy, life-long residents of Needham, Massachusetts to support a MassBay Community College student who is a resident of Needham or graduate of Needham High School. This scholarship is intended to encourage an individual who may have not done as well as he or she should have in high school and would like an opportunity to start again. A $750 scholarship is awarded for two consecutive semesters

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • Needham, Massachusetts resident or Needham High School graduate
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in college-level classes in the each semester at MassBay
  • 150 word or less essay on how the scholarship will help you move forward.

Single Parent Scholarship

The Single Parent Scholarship was established to support a student who is a single parent with full/joint custody of minor child/children pursuing a college education.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts resident
  • Declared major pursuing an associate degree or certificate
  • Single parent with full/joint custody of minor child / children
  • GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in award semester
  • A two paragraph 250-300 word essay sharing your journey to MassBay, your goals for the future and how this scholarship would help you achieve your goals.
