MassBay Announced on the Top Military Friendly Schools List

Friday, February 1, 2019

WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (February 1, 2019) – MassBay Community College is pleased to announce it has been selected for the 2019-2020 Military Friendly® Schools list for veterans attending post-secondary education. The Military Friendly® Schools list is compiled and released by VIQTORY, a company committed to connecting the military community with civilian opportunities.

The Military Friendly® Schools list has come to set the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans, their spouses, and families in a comprehensive guide. Institutions earning the Military Friendly® Schools designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey completed by each participating college. This year, 766 schools earned this designation.

“MassBay Community College proudly welcomes veterans, reservists, active military, and dependents of veterans and extends its gratitude to all current and former military personnel for their service to our nation,” said MassBay Veteran and Military Services Coordinator, Marie Hahs.

“MassBay is extremely welcoming and has excellent resources which will help me build my foundation and transfer to a four-year university,” said MassBay Veterans’ Club Vice President, Patrick Murphy.

The 2019-2020 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. The list can also be found on www.militaryfriendly.com. Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by VIQTORY, with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

MassBay offers academic advising, career counseling, and support services to assist our veteran students to succeed. Among the resources available to MassBay’s veteran students, is the on-campus Veterans Resource Center, nicknamed “The Bunker,” which opened in spring 2011. MassBay currently enrolls more than 140 veteran students each semester.
