WELLESLEY HILLS (October 1, 2014) – More than 140 runners, walkers, and families came out this past Sunday morning on September 28th, to once again support the Krystle Campbell 5K race/walk fundraiser at MassBay Community College.
Event organizers estimate $20,000 was raised on behalf of the Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund, which was established last year by the MassBay Foundation Board. The Fund honors Krystle Campbell, a MassBay graduate who lost her life at the Boston Marathon finish line at the age of 29.
Krystle Campbell earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from MassBay in 2005, and then transferred her credits to UMass-Boston to pursue a Bachelor’s degree. The Scholarship will be awarded each year to a deserving MassBay business student who submits an essay about resiliency, making a difference, generosity of spirit, or overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal. This year’s scholarship award went to Susanne MacNeil pictured above with MassBay president, Dr. John O’Donnell and Chief Academic Officer, Francesca Purcell.
“It was a meaningful, successful event,” said Mary Shia, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations. “We appreciate the support of the Town of Wellesley, Wellesley Police Department, our sponsors, and everyone who came out to contribute to this great cause. Uniting the community is what we do at MassBay, and we were very proud to honor Krystle and her family in this way.”
