WELLESLEY HILLS (September 28, 2016) — MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that the College has a new Cyber Security Associate of Science degree program that has been approved by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. MassBay Community College’s Associate of Science degree in this high demand field is the only Cyber Security program in the Commonwealth that is not designed as a concentration of another field such as computer science. The College is part of a Department of Higher Education funded Cyber Security project that is tasked with establishing transfer pathways for Cyber Security programs with 4-years public institutions in the state. MassBay also offers a very popular sixteen credit Cyber Security certificate program. Students can begin enrolling in the new Cyber Security Associate program this fall.

“I’m delighted that MassBay can serve the Commonwealth by offering this new program,” said MassBay President Dr. David Podell. “Cyber security is of great concern to individuals, government, and private industry. Massachusetts needs a cadre of well educated cyber security specialists to ensure the safety and integrity of our networks, and MassBay is now situated to help in this endeavor.”

“We would like to thank the Board of Higher Education for their approval of this new Cyber Security Associate in Science degree program,” said MassBay Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Chitra Javdekar. “With this approval, the Commonwealth has shown great commitment to high quality and affordable education at our public Colleges, and has established Cyber Security education as a priority. This new program will provide our student community with a strong academic and technical foundation and offer a professional track to enter high-paying careers in this rapidly changing field.”

The Cyber Security Associate in Science curriculum will prepare students with a strong academic and technical foundation in computing, security, and mathematics and offer a new professional technical track for students. The program will provide the requisite knowledge and technical training for several important aspects of cyber security including; networking, information assurance, security of operating systems, and overall as well as web security. This program will offer academic and career preparation for students entering the cyber security field, and aims to recruit and retain diverse student populations.
