WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. (June 19, 2019) — MassBay Community College is pleased to announce student athlete, Dylan Quaratiello of Somerville, placed 35th at the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men’s Golf National Championship at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautaugua, New York. Quaratiello shot 76 – 85 – 85 - 78 during the four-day tournament, for a combined score of 324.

"I am extremely proud of the performance Dylan had at the NJCAA National Championships,” said MassBay Golf Coach, David Rixham. “I know he may have not reached his goal of finishing as an All-American, but he showed some tremendous fight on Day 4 to try and make a run, and he should be very proud. One of Dylan's best attributes is never giving up until the last stroke has been counted. In a sport where many athletes sputter down the stretch of a bad round, Dylan continues to fight for every last shot, knowing that one shot can make all the difference sometimes. I have no doubt that we will be back in 2020 at the National Championships and Dylan will make a run at Chautauqua next year."

Quaratiello is a biotechnology major and member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. This is his first year on the MassBay Men’s Golf team and his first trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship. Quaratiello currently works at the Fresh Pond Golf Course in Cambridge, MA as the PGA Junior League Assistant Coach and “enjoys teaching young kids about golf and good sportsmanship.” His future plans include earning his associate degree at MassBay in biotechnology, transferring to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology with a minor in business, and continuing to play golf.

This is the third straight year that MassBay has had at least one golfer qualify to compete at the NJCAA Men’s Golf National Championship.
