WELLESLEY HILLS, MA (January, 2017) – MassBay Community College is pleased to announce the Gladys Brooks Foundation has gifted the College $100,000 for scholarships for high achieving single parent students, making this the biggest single endowment gift the College has ever received to support single parent students. High academic achieving single parent students eligible for the Gladys Brooks Foundation Endowed Scholarship must also be in their second year at MassBay, on track to graduate with an Associate degree and plans to transfer to a 4-year college or university to pursue a Bachelors’ degree.

“This gift to the College will have a lasting impact on the educational advancement for many of our current and future single parent students,” said MassBay Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations and Executive Director of the MassBay Foundation Mary Shia.

“In making this grant the Governing Board believed that it is very important for single parents to continue their education, recognizing all of the other responsibilities in their daily lives,” said Gladys Brooks Foundation Chairman James Daly.

The Gladys Brooks Foundation was created under the will of Gladys Brooks Thayer of New York. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide for the intellectual, moral and physical welfare of the people of this country by establishing and supporting non-profit libraries, educational institutions, hospitals and clinics.

MassBay will be awarding at least 6 students scholarships per year and eligible students can begin applying in Fall 2018 with scholarships being issued in Spring 2019.
