MassBay Alum Doubles as a Radiological Technologist and Natick Fire Captain

Thursday, November 30, 2017

Wellesley, MA (November 30, 2017) - MassBay alum John Austin is a busy guy. Austin, who graduated in 1997 with an Associate in Science degree in Radiologic Technology, splits his work week at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge as an Interventional Radiology Technologist and the Natick Fire Department as a Fire Captain. He has been able to combine two jobs that he loves to create the perfect career for himself.

Austin grew up in Watertown and after graduation from Watertown High, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp as a combat engineer. Once he completed his 4-year contract with the Marines he enrolled in the Radiologic Technology program to earn his Associate degree. He always loved working as a Radiologic Technologist and was employed before he graduated with his Associate degree, but a friend encouraged him to take the fire exam and enter the field. Austin has worked at the Natick Fire Department since 2001 and works alongside many MassBay graduates. He also returned to MassBay in 1999 to earn his Emergency Medical Technician certificate. He credits MassBay for launching his career in the medical and public safety fields.

“I had a great experience at MassBay,” said Austin. “Never underestimate the value, quality and opportunities a degree from MassBay can provide.”
