WELLESLEY HILLS (December 2, 2015) – MassBay Community College is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the MetroWest Health Foundation. These funds will provide upgrades to the college’s simulation and laparoscopic technology in the Health Sciences Division, located on the MassBay Framingham campus.
This grant will ensure students are competent in using the latest technology in the health care industry and are prepared to treat a range of patient conditions when they enter the workforce. For Emergency Medical Services and Surgical Technology students, one of the most effective ways to be prepared for the workplace is through simulation technology and laboratory equipment that allows faculty to create authentic learning experiences for the students. Simulation technology and equipment provides opportunities for students to practice skills, learn from mistakes, and achieve competencies in safe learning environments without any risks to patients. The instructors can also use this technology to document and track students’ progress in class, while providing students with timely feedback. The grant funds will be available January 2016 and students will begin studying on the new technology for the spring 2016 semester.
The MetroWest Health Foundation is an independent philanthropic organization focused on improving the health needs of residents in MetroWest region, by supporting community-based programs. Since being founded in 1999, the foundation has provided over $45 million in grants to area programs.
MassBay’s Division of Health Sciences offers several high quality, competency-based associate degree and certificate programs that serve the needs of the healthcare professionals and employers in the MetroWest region. The Health Science Programs include Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician, Associate Degree in Nursing, Practical Nursing, Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy.
