MassBay Offers Dynamic STEM Programs This Summer

WELLESLEY HILLS (May 29, 2014) – Massachusetts Bay Community College (MassBay) will be hosting multiple summer events for middle and high school students, and to college newcomers, beginning in July. Students will have a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) classes and hands-on workshops to choose from. Classes run from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm on the Wellesley Hills campus, 50 Oakland Street, Monday - Friday.

Summer Bridge program, July 7-18: High school students will have a wide variety of options to choose from, and they can earn college credits. Topics include Engineering Design and 3D technologies, Cyber Security, Biology, Physics, and more. Students may also choose a range of workshops that cover a new topic every 2 ½ days. Students can try their hand at Mobile App development, and software engineering with the computer education tool, Raspberry Pi. $100 per student for two weeks.

Summer STEM program, July 7-18: Middle school students can investigate, design and create while participating in a variety of classes. Students will strengthen their math, biology, physics and computer skills while interacting with peers. $300 per student for two weeks.

STEM Starter Academy, July 7 – Aug. 18: Open to anybody that hasn’t taken college courses before. Students can explore STEM courses by taking a summer class at MassBay. Courses include Intro to Computer Science, Intro to the Internet, Web Development I and II,Intro to Biotechnology, a life science workshop, and more. Upon completion of the course, students will be entered into a lottery to receive another STEM course at no cost.

All classes will be taught by full-time, credentialed MassBay professors in their area of expertise. Registration is now underway, and seats are filling fast.


MassBay awards associate degrees and certificates in over 70 academic programs in a wide range of career-driven subjects ranging from accounting and automotive technology to forensic DNA science and early childhood education. The College’s facilities in Wellesley Hills, Framingham and Ashland house day, evening and weekend classes that meet the needs of degree-seeking students and career minded life-long learners. Online options provide convenience and allow faculty to facilitate the learning process. Since its founding in 1961, MassBay has been accredited by several governing bodies and strives to meet the needs of the diverse local communities it serves. Registration is now underway for summer session II, which begins on July 7th, and for fall semester, which gets underway on September 2nd.
