MassBay to Hold MassBay 5k Race/Walk to Benefit Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

WELLESLEY HILLS (September 10, 2013) – Krystle Campbell arrived at MassBay as many of our students do. A few years out of Medford High School, Krystle was looking to improve her life by going back to school and earning a degree. She earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from MassBay in 2005, and then transferred her credits to UMass Boston to pursue a Bachelor’s degree. Hers is what we call here a success story.

Tragically, Krystle’s story ends much too suddenly. Standing at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, Krystle lost her life at the age of 29.

On Sunday September 29, 2013 MassBay Community College is holding a community-wide special event, the MassBay 5k Race/Walk, which will benefit the Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund that was started this year in her honor. This Scholarship will go to a deserving MassBay business student who submits an essay about resiliency, making a difference, generosity of spirit, or overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal.

The Race will take place on MassBay’s Wellesley Hills campus, 50 Oakland Street at 10:00 am, rain or shine, $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. The first 300 registrants will receive a t-shirt. The event promises to be fun and uplifting for all families, with music, food, games, medals, and prizes – all while enjoying some exercise in support of a worthy cause. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
