MassBay Establishes Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund
WELLESLEY HILLS (May 1, 2013) – MassBay President John O’Donnell and MassBay Foundation Board Chairman James McKenzie announced today that the College has established a scholarship in Krystle Campbell’s name. Krystle was a Medford resident who lost her life in the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013. She was a member of MassBay’s graduating class of 2005, with an Associate Degree in Business Administration.
“We lost one of our own on that horrific day,” said President O’Donnell, “and we wanted to establish a permanent tribute to Krystle at our institution. The Krystle Campbell Scholarship will forever link her contributions to our community with the hopes and aspirations of future MassBay students. It is a fitting tribute to the Campbell family, who has lost so much.”
Because Krystle was a business major, the Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is also majoring in business. Candidates must be carrying a full course load, be a Massachusetts resident, and must submit an essay about resiliency, making a difference, generosity of spirit, or overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal.
“The MassBay Foundation is proud to offer this important scholarship in Krystle’s name,” said Chairman McKenzie, whose father John F. McKenzie served as MassBay’s founding president. “There is no more significant way we can think of to honor Krystle Campbell and perpetuate her memory than to provide needed funds for future MassBay students in her name.”
MassBay awards associate degrees and certificates in over 60 academic programs in a wide range of career-driven subjects ranging from accounting and automotive technology to forensic DNA science and early childhood education. The College’s facilities in Wellesley Hills, Framingham and Ashland offer day, evening and weekend classes to meet the needs of degree-seeking students and career minded life-long learners. Online options provide convenience and allow faculty to facilitate the learning process. Since its founding in 1961, MassBay has been accredited by several governing bodies and strives to meet the needs of the diverse population it serves.
