March Madness comes to MassBay

 An Historic Season -470

The 2012-2013 Season

The 2012-13 MassBay Buccaneers completed their historic season after winning the New England regional tournament and earning a trip to New York for three games at the NJCAA National Tournament. After a win over Rock Valley (IL) College, the first victory at Nationals in school history, the Bucs dropped the next two games to finish 5th. The team concluded its season ranked 5th in the nation, the highest final ranking for a MassBay team in school history. At 27-8, the team also tied school records for wins in a season.

After being named a second-team All-New England for his outstanding regular season, forward Boris Fodouop was named to the all-Tournament team at Nationals.

Guard Roger Paul was a 1st Team All-New England region selection for his play this year, while Givaughn Jones and Christopher Ewing joined Fodouop as second-team All-New England selections. Guard Eric Alleyne was an All-New England Honorable Mention.

MassBay Head Coach Bill Raynor added to his New England Basketball Hall of Fame credentials by being named District 8 National Coach of the Year and Region XXI (New England) Coach of the Year in 2013. In his seven years as MassBay's mens basketball coach, Raynor has amassed 161 wins, three New England regional titles, three Massachusetts state titles, and has been named District 8 National Coach of the Year and Region XXI Coach of the Year three times respectively.

2012-2013 NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT - Game 1

MASSBAY DEFEATS ILLINOIS TEAM, WINS FIRST GAME OF NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT, 74-66

Loch Sheldrake, NY. , March 14, 2013…… The MassBay Buccaneers defeated Rock Valley College (IL) in a closely contested first round game at the NJCAA DIII National Tournament on a cold and windy afternoon at the SUNY Sullivan campus in upstate New York.

With a starting lineup of Eric Alleyne, Mike Swiderski, Roger Paul, Boris Fodouop, and Givaughn Jones, the Buccaneers kept it close during the first half, until the nine-minute mark, when Rock Valley penetrated the Buccaneer defense, went on a run and led 26-18 at 7:14.

BUCCANEERS LOSE IN NATIONALS SEMIFINAL GAME, FALL TO TEXAS TEAM, 91-65

Loch Sheldrake, N.Y., March 14, 2013….. MassBay coach Bill Raynor had his Buccaneer team rested and ready to play a semifinal match against the Eastfield (TX) College Harvesters, the #5 rated NJCAA DIII team in the nation, just 27 hours after the Bucs defeated Rock Valley College (IL) in Thursday's NJCAA National Tournament opener in upstate New York.

MASSBAY EARNS 5TH PLACE AT NJCAA NATIONALS

MassBay's basketball season ended today with a loss to the Herkimer CC Generals, the 4th ranked team in the country. Unable to contain Herkimer's 3-point shooter, Demetrius Mitchell, or their 6'8" center, Jonathan Feiler, the Bucs completed the NJCAA National Tournament with a 5th place finish. The team concludes its season ranked 5th in the nation, the highest final ranking for a MassBay team in school history. At 27-8, the team tied school records for wins in a season.

On behalf of the Men’s basketball team we would like to say thank you for your spirit, enthusiasm and support on our journey to the National title. We ended our season as the 5th best team in the country which is the best in school history. Your presence and encouragement helped make this a memorable season and for this we are thankful...

The 2011-12 Season

The 2011-12 team featured 6’8” Rahshjeem Benson (#44) in the middle flanked by rugged forwards Jeremy Odena (#35), Boris Fodouop (#33), and Mitchell Jean-Louis (#55). Sharpshooters Jordan Rezendes (#21), Nate Nunez (#20), Tyler Pettus (#10) Derrick Foster (#5), Nicholas Smith (#23), Chris Ewing (#11), and JR Orne (#2) provided scoring from the perimeter and depth.




The 2010-11 Season

The 2010-11 Buccaneers finished the year ranked 8th nationally. They went 21-7 in the regular season, won the New England tournament, and earned a spot in the National Championship tournament. They lost a nail biter in the first round, losing to Ocean County (NJ) College by one point after a MassBay shot at the buzzer rolled off the rim.
