Reading/Writing/Study Skills, Math and Science Courses


Fall 2013, September 17th - December 10th

 

  • HCLN** Preparation for Health Careers – CU 130-350 (6636) ; Tuesdays 4-5pm Framingham
    This course provides a review of the basic reading, writing, and study skills that students need for success in challenging healthcare career pathways. Topics include: college and career exploration, becoming a self-directed learner; study, organization, and memory skills, strategies for test-taking and managing test-anxiety; effective reading strategies; and technical writing. Students learn and practice these skills in the context of completing a Case Study project focused on a challenge they identify in their current work environment or a health care-centered research project for students not working in health care.
  • HCLN** Health Science – CU 131-350 (6654); Tuesdays, 4-5pm Framingham
    This course provides a review of basic science concepts as they relate to health and disease. Topics include: the scientific method; the structure of atoms, molecules and cells, a review of the eleven human organ systems with a focus medical terminology; genetics; and the role of bacteria and viruses in health. Students learn and practice these skills in the context of completing a short Research Project that explores a specific health condition of their choosing: heart disease, diabetes, or cancer.
  • HCLN** Math – CU 132-350 (6655); Tuesdays 4-5pm Framingham
    This course provides a review of the basic math and pre-algebra concepts and skills that students need for success in challenging healthcare career pathways. Topics include: numbers and numeration, arithmetic operations, fractions, decimals, percents, measurements, ratios and proportions. Students learn and practice these skills in a health-related context.
