Civic Engagement

Become a Buccaneer Volunteer!

Civic Engagement is an opportunity for students, staff and alumni to engage in local community-based projects. Opportunities are available to help foster an individual’s understanding and appreciation of the challenges members of our communities encounter on a daily basis. It is the hope that individuals will return from any volunteer experience with a deeper understanding of volunteerism, Civic Engagement, activism and a great appreciation for diverse populations.

Birthday-in-a-Box Program

The Birthday-in-a-Box Program serves homeless children in domestic violence shelters, scattered sites, motels and other locations which cannot accommodate Birthday Wishes party Coordinators. It allows Birthday Wishes to reach an additional 3,000 homeless children in almost any living situation each year.

This Project will be a combination of fundraising, collecting and assembling Birthday Boxes. There will also be a tour and information session of Birthday Wishes’ main office in Newton, MA.

Cradles to Crayons

Hosting a Community Drive event is an enjoyable and productive way for supporters to see the Cradles to Crayons mission and model at work firsthand. The first step is to come together as a community to collect donations at multiple locations. Volunteers will then come together to sort, inspect, and organize the items at their school, faith-based facility, community center etc. — just as we would in our Giving Factory warehouse.
