  • December 2016 - MassBay Joins City of Boston Tuition-Free Community College Plan

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh has expanded the City of Boston’s Tuition-Free Community College Plan, which pays for up to three years of community college for eligible Boston Public School graduates, to include MassBay as a participating college.

    MassBay is pleased to announce five students raised $700 in donations on a GoFundMe page and purchased 100 teddy bears for the Massachusetts State Police as part of their Group Process Class in the Human Services program.


  • December 2016 - MassBay Students Place 4th at National Cyber League Competition

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce a student cyber security team has placed 4th at the National Cyber League 2016 Competition. The seven member student team from MassBay, called the Segfault, was ranked 4th out of 144 teams nationwide.

    Dr. Jackson, who joined MassBay in 1993, was chair of the Biotechnology and Forensic DNA Science programs. He was a devoted, stalwart mentor and father figure to his students.


  • November 2016 - MassBay Announces Keefe Tech Superintendent, Jonathan Evans, Appointed to the MassBay Board of Trustees

    Jonathan Evans has served as the Superintendent for the South Middlesex Regional Vocational Technical School District since 2014. Previously, he served as Keefe Tech’s Principal from 2011 to 2014. Evans earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Providence College, his Master of Education in Counseling Psychology and his CAGS in Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston.


  • November 2016 - MassBay Offers Five Short Certificate Programs, Transforming Student Careers in Just One Semester

    The five certificate programs that take one semester to complete are Central Processing Technologies, Emergency Medical Technician, Phlebotomy, Cyber Security Analyst and Certified Nursing Assistant. MassBay offers certificate programs in-person at all three campuses, Ashland, Framingham and Wellesley Hills during the fall, spring and summer semesters, as well as many evening and weekend options to fit student schedules. Some certificates, such as Paralegal Studies, can be completed entirely online.

    Massachusetts Bay Community College is pleased to announced Monica Signorino, of Wellesley, has been named MassBay’s new Student Trustee. Monica is currently a sophomore student studying Liberal Arts and has served as a Student Government Association Senator since Spring 2016.


  • November 2016 - MassBay Receives $10,000 from Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that it has received a $10,000 grant by the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation for the 2016 – 2017 fiscal year. The award will enhance MassBay’s Leadership Ambassador’s (MBLA) Program in areas such as staffing, monthly career-focused workshops and networking events, college student visits to local companies, and the recruitment of volunteers.

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that seven faculty members have been selected by the Massachusetts Community College Go OPEN Education Council to receive grant funding to adopt ‘open education resources’ (OER) for their courses.


  • November 2016 - MassBay Cyber Security Student Selected to Present Project at the Annual Massachusetts Cybersecurity 2.0 Conference

    He is the only community college student this year to present at at the conference, which will be held in Boston on Thursday, November 3, 2016.


  • October 2016 - MassBay Students Awarded $82,995 in Scholarships

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce 115 students were awarded more than $82,995 in scholarships, emergency funding and funding for text books at its bi-annual Scholarship Awards ceremony. The generous donations received by the MassBay Foundation make it possible for these 115 students to continue their studies a little easier.

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that Governor Charlie Baker today appointed new members to the MassBay Board of Trustees. The new appointees are Tim Clifford of Holliston and Jen Maseda of Natick.


  • October 2016 - Five MassBay Students Awarded One Family Scholarships

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that five students have been selected for the One Family Scholars program by One Family Inc. of Waltham. The students selected are; Daisy Escobar of Waltham who is studying Accounting, Crystal Farrell of Marlborough who is studying Hospitality Management, Melisar Nambatya of Framingham who is studying Human Services, Danielle Ramos of Framingham who is enrolled in Surgical Technology, and Patricia Bonanno of Ashland who graduated in May with an Associate degree and will study Nursing at Worcester State University.

    MassBay Community College is pleased to celebrate 13 years as the General Motors Satellite Training Center for the Boston area in the Northeast Region. The design of the technical training program is created by the General Motors Service Technical College (GMSTC) to provide area GM technicians with the latest dealership knowledge


  • October 2016 - MassBay Student Selected to Present Paper at National Conference this Year

    Liberal Arts major Charley Haskins of Southborough is the only community college student this year to have his paper selected to present at The 39th Annual Conference of the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender (OSCLG) in Oak Park, Illinois this October.


  • September 2016 - MassBay Announces New Cyber Security Associate of Science Degree Program

    The MassBay Community College Associate of Science degree in this high-demand field is the only Cyber Security program in the Commonwealth that is not designed as a concentration of another field such as computer science.


  • September 2016 - MassBay to Hold Its Annual Kick-Off Reception for the STEM Mentor Program

    This reception will include a welcome from MassBay President David Podell, the Director of the STEM Mentor Program, and Sanofi U.S. Head of Biopharmaceutics Development. In the fall of 2014, MassBay launched the STEM Mentor Program with 41 students and one company, Genzyme/Sanofi, whose employees served as mentors. This year, the STEM Mentor Program has expanded to include 63 students paired primarily with employees from more than 15 regional companies and agencies.

    In light of the sudden closing of all 137 ITT Technical Institute campuses, including two in Massachusetts, MassBay Community College is offering assistance and support to all affected students. These abrupt closures are dislodging more than 35,000 students from their programs nationwide, including hundreds here in the Commonwealth.

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that Fall courses will begin on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 with students taking courses online and in-person at our three campuses located in Ashland, Framingham, and Wellesley Hills. There is still time for prospective students to sign-up for courses and begin classes this fall. The College is also offering extended hours and two Saturdays to accommodate student's schedules to ensure they can apply and register for classes,

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that student Ellen Gowen has been hired by MicroGroup of Medway, MA after completing her internship through the MassBay TRANSFORM program and with the assistance of local One-Stop Career Center.


  • July 2016 - MassBay Community College to Hold iCREAT Summer High School Student Project Presentation

    Massachusetts Bay Community College will hold its first iCREAT Summer Project Presentation for local high school students who participated in this summer’s first iCREAT Summer Program. High school students from Framingham, Waltham, Wayland, Wellesley, Brookline and other local towns took part in this hands-on STEM interdisciplinary course where they created a functional robot.

    Massachusetts Bay Community College is pleased to welcome Dr. David Podell as the sixth president of MassBay. Dr. Podell begins his tenure today following Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernandez, who had served as MassBay’s interim president this past academic year. The College’s fifth president Dr. John O’Donnell retired in August 2015.


  • June 2016 - MassBay Community College Announces Sanofi Genzyme Charitable Contribution to Fund the STEM Mentor Program

    MassBay Community College is pleased to announce the award of a $37,000 charitable contribution from Sanofi Genzyme to assist in funding the MassBay Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Mentor Program. The STEM Mentor Program is also funded through the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education STEM Starter Academy grant.


  • June 2016 - MassBay Presents All Vehicle Show Gold Level Sponsors Awards

    This year the All Vehicle Shows top sponsors were Best Chevrolet of Hingham, MA and Herb Connolly Chevrolet of Framingham, MA. The All Vehicle Show is held annually at our Automotive Technology Center in Ashland and this year raised a total of $15,000 to benefit students studying automotive technology.

  • June 2016 - MassBay Announces Annual All Vehicle Show Award Winners

    Spectators who attended the May event voted for the top 20 vehicles and the People’s Choice Award winners, in addition the MassBay alumni voted for the Alumni Choice Award winner. This year’s All Vehicle Show had 160 vehicles registered, raising $15,000 from registration fees which will be used to fund MassBay automotive technology student scholarships.

    Nearly 300 students participated in this year’s Commencement ceremony, representing students from 38 countries from around the world. This diverse and talented group included Stacey Okada, a student who was awarded the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, the Foster Furcolo Scholarship and the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship.

    The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education held its annual “29 Who Shine,” a commencement season awards program to recognize 29 outstanding student graduates from the Commonwealth’s public higher education system. Each honoree from a community college, state university or University of Massachusetts campus is nominated by a faculty or staff member, or by a university awards committee.

    The four member student team from MassBay, placed third behind Hamilton College and Clark University, out of 39 teams that competed in the competition.

    Dr. Podell, who currently serves as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Marymount Manhattan College in New York, was selected from a rich pool of candidates, following an extensive nationwide search led by a diverse group of Trustees, faculty, staff, students and alumni on the College’s Presidential Search Committee.

    Boston College Lynch School of Education and Massachusetts Bay Community College have collaborated on a new and unique career initiative, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) ITEST grant, to prepare low-income students from area high schools for careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Eight-eight students from across Massachusetts are enrolled in the One Family Scholars program this academic year, which provides a combination of both individualized coaching and scholarship funds.

    The Massachusetts Bay Community College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce its unanimous recommendation to the Board of Higher Education that Dr. David Podell be appointed MassBay’s next president. This recommendation must be approved by the Board of Higher Education and is subject to an agreement on a contract.

    Massachusetts Bay Community College is pleased to announce student Stacy Okada has been named a 2016 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Foundation, the awarding body for the highest national undergraduate prize for Science, Engineering, and Mathematics. Okada is the only community college student nationwide to be named a scholar this year by the prestigious foundation.

    On Wednesday, March 2, 2016 representatives from our STEM team were invited to attend the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce breakfast as House Speaker Robert DeLeo’s guests. During the Speaker’s Chamber speech he outlined house priorities for the next year and he applauded MassBay’s STEM program and our collaboration with Sanofi Genzyme.

    The show is free and open to the public, featuring vehicles of all genres – from 1930s roadsters to modern muscle cars to imported vehicles. The spectators that attend will vote for the top 20 vehicles and the People’s Choice Award, in addition the MassBay alumni will vote for the Alumni Choice Awards.
