Professor Donato started teaching at MassBay in 2004 and has been a member of the English faculty since 2010. He also teaches literature and critical thinking.

Before coming to MassBay, Professor Donato was a dean at Wesleyan University in Connecticut and worked  for U.S. Senator John Kerry. He next served as Outreach Director at the Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth (MassINC), a public policy think tank in Boston. While at MassINC, he served as the Deputy Publisher of the institute’s magazine CommonWealth.

Professor Donato earned his BA in 1997 from Hobart College. He earned his MALS from Wesleyan University in 1990 and an MA from The George Washington University in 1993. 

Outside of MassBay, Professor Donato dabbles in woodworking and enjoys climbing in the Tetons. He is an alpine mountaineering  graduate of the Pacific Crest Outward Bound School and the National Outdoor Leadership School.
