Peer Tutoring

The Peer Tutoring program is a vibrant, active student organization. The program offers assistance in a wide range of subjects, varying from mathematics to literature. Peer tutoring encourages and assists students in developing their own potential as students and accordingly become better students in their coursework. Tutors are trained to engage and encourage tutees in sharing ideas and solutions, utilizing various tutoring strategies and facilitating students toward learning and understanding. Peer tutors are students who excel in their areas of study and who enjoy helping their fellow students achieve academic success.

The goal of tutoring in the Academic Achievement Center is to help students become active, independent learners. Tutoring is not intended to be a substitute for class attendance, a quick fix the day before an exam or a question-and-answer exercise.

Peer Tutors are an important and free resource at the college. Tutors are current students who have taken courses with many of the same professors. Guiding tutees successfully through their course of studies is what they do best. Peer tutors are trained to use a variety of techniques such as questioning, modeling, listening and demonstration.
