Placement Testing Preparation

You may wish to try a few sample questions that are similar to those that would appear during your placement testing. Choose from the categories below for examples of problems.

Writeplacer

This test evaluates the effectiveness of your writing on the basis of five characteristics: focus, organization, development and support, sentence structure, and mechanical conventions. Your score will be based on your ability to express your opinions and ideas, not on the position you take on the essay topic.

Reading Comprehension

This test measures your ability to understand what you read. Some questions will ask you to read a statement or passage and then choose the best answer to the question. This test contains 20 multiple choice questions.

Identifying Sentence/Passage Relationships

Arithmetic

This test measures your ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and to solve problems that involve fundamental arithmetic concepts. There are three categories on this test: operations with whole numbers, operations with decimals and percents, and applications and problem solving. This test contains 17 multiple choice questions.

Elementary Algebra

This test measures your ability to perform basic algebraic operations and to solve problems that involve elementary algebraic concepts. There are three categories on this test: operations with integers and rational numbers, operation with algebraic expression, equation solving, inequalities, and word problems. This test contains 12 multiple choice questions.

College Level Mathematics

This test measures your ability to solve problems that involve college-level mathematics concepts. There are five categories on this test: algebraic operations, solutions of equations and inequalities, coordinate geometry, application and other algebraic topics, and functions and trigonometry. This test contains 20 multiple choice questions.
