The Financial Aid Process is easy. Here is how it works- just follow the steps. If you have any questions about the process, call us or e-mail us. 

Step 1
Apply to the College (admissions application) and enroll in an eligible degree or certificate program at MassBay.

Step 2
Complete a FAFSA Application on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov (remember to print and submit the signature page if you do not have a pin number). If you do not have access to the internet, complete and mail a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who completed a FAFSA last year may have received a renewal FAFSA. The renewal form may also be used to apply for aid. Be sure to assign MassBay Community College SchoolCode (002171).

Step 3
Complete and submit the MassBay Financial Aid Application 07-08 for Spring 2008 and/or MassBay Financial Aid Application 08-09 along with a high school diploma or GED.  

Step 4
Wait for the Student Aid Report (SAR). This will be mailed to you within 2-3 weeks after you have mailed your FAFSA or in 1 week if you have done your FAFSA on line. Read the comments on page one to determine if you have been selected for verification. If you are selected for verification, additional documents will be required such as copies of federal taxes (1040’s) and a verification worksheet (which you can obtain at the office or at on-line under forms). If additional documents are required, you will receive a letter from our Financial Aid Office. Keep this SAR for your record. 

The total financial aid process may take up to 4-6 weeks. The FAFSA takes 1 week to get to the school when you complete it on line and 2-3 weeks when you mail it. Once the college receives your FAFSA application it will take the financial aid office a few weeks to review your file. In the process of your review the college may determine that additional documents are required. If all paper work is completed by our priority deadline in May, you should receive an award prior to your bill due date.
