Presidential Awardee

Dr J and ObamaDr. Bruce A. Jackson (known as “Dr. J” by his students), professor of Biotechnology and Forensic DNA Science and the coordinator of the Biotechnology Programs, was awarded the prestigious and well-deserved Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring in January 2011, which recognizes the crucial role that mentoring plays in the academic and personal development of students studying science or engineering.

 

After wining-and-dining and thorough security screenings by the Secret Service, he met with President Obama at former president John F. Kennedy's desk in the Oval Office. The president expressed his support for community colleges – Dr. Jackson’s hard work, devotion, and innovation highlight the dedication that MassBay has towards giving learners a first-rate, accessible, and relevant education.

 

Afterwards, members of the MassBay community celebrated this auspicious occasion in the middle of a snow storm. Dr. J attributed the award to his students.
