Central Services & Materials Management

What is a Central Services & Materials Management (CSMM) Technician?
The CSMM Technician oversees and manages the Central Services Department in a healthcare facility. Additionally, the CSMM Technician supervises individuals who work in sterile supply areas where instruments, supplies and medical equipment are processed, sterilized or disinfected, and distributed. Before a surgeon can make that initial incision, a team of skilled Central Services Technician professionals has worked diligently to ensure that each and every instrument is properly decontaminated, sterilized, well-functioning, and available when needed.

The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) has produced a video titled "Central Sterile Supply Department: It All Starts Here".
Click on the arrow below on the video to view an eye-opening glimpse into the exciting, fast-paced – and critically important -- world of CSSM.
