Evening and Weekend Programs

The Office of Evening and Weekend Programming offers a wide variety of credit courses and a number of degree and certificate programs that can be completed evenings, weekends, and summers as well as during the accelerated winter (intersession) term.  Admission requirements, academic standards, transfer policy and procedures, grading policies and instructional standards are the same as students enrolled during the day.  

Classes are delivered in a variety of formats including traditional face-to-face lecture, online and hybrid (lecture online with face-to-face labs).  There are also several options for course length including our standard 15-week semester, accelerated 8-week semesters, 6-week summer semesters or over just three weekends.  All courses meet the required number of hours of instruction regardless of the format or length that you choose.  

In response to working adults, MassBay offers a wide selection of degree and certificate programs as well as individual courses during evening and weekend hours.  Evening courses are available Monday through Friday between 5:00pm and 10:00pm.  Weekend programs are offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday with some courses online.  

MassBay offers a wide variety of humanities, social sciences, professional studies, and health science courses for our current student body as well as transfer students.

Science on Sundays

These science courses take place every Sunday afternoon during the Fall and Spring semesters.  Classes begin at 12:00pm.

Summer

Courses during the summer are accelerated and fall into one of three available sessions:

  • 6 Week I – Begins the last week of May and runs until the first week of July
  • 6 Week II – Begins after Independence Day and runs through mid-August
  • 10 Week – Begins the last week of May and runs until the last week of July

Intersession 

You can complete an entire course in just 10 days!  Classes run Monday - Friday for two consecutive weeks beginning the first week of January.  Hours vary based on the amount of credits given: Three credits: 9am – 2pm; Four credits: 9am – 4pm.

Who takes courses evenings and weekends?

  • Students who work daytime hours and/or have family obligations
  • Students who wish to have credits transferred to another institution
  • High school students as part of our Dual Enrollment Program
  • Home school students who need a lab science course
  • Students who want to work at their own pace
  • Students who are looking to enrich their personal knowledge

How long will it take me to earn a degree or certificate?

  • You can earn an Associate’s Degree in the evening in just three years by taking classes four evenings per week, given that you meet competencies in English and Math.
  • You can earn an Associate’s Degree on weekends in less than two years, given that you meet the competencies in English and Math.
  • You can earn a certificate in Business Information Technology in 8 months.

Am I eligible for financial aid?

Any student enrolled in a degree or certificate program can apply for a loan, grant or scholarship.  Please call (781) 239-2600 or visit the Office of Financial Aid to begin the application process.


Will these credits transfer to a four-year institution?

MassBay students may transfer to public colleges or universities under the Commonwealth Transfer Compact.  Please contact our Transfer Counselor at (781) 239-2783 to obtain more information.  MassBay is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc (NEASC).


What are the available sessions for the Fall and Spring semesters?

  • 15 Week – Full semester courses, 3 credits = one night per week, 4 credits = two nights
  • 8  Week I – Accelerated courses, mostly on Saturdays 8:00am – 4:30pm or online
  • 8 Week II – Accelerated courses, mostly on Saturdays 8:00am – 4:30pm or online
  • Online – Courses meet through Blackboard website and all material is completed online
  • Hybrid – Lecture material is online and labs are face-to-face

  1. From the main MassBay web page, click on “Future Students”
  2. Click on Course Schedule
  3. Select the appropriate term and filter courses by preference

How do I enroll?

  • If you are seeking to join a degree or certificate program, please contact the Office of Admissions at (781) 239-2500.  You will need to complete the following steps:
  • Obtain an application - online or through the Office of Admissions
  • Submit the application with a $20.00 non-refundable application fee
  • Submit proof of high school graduation or equivalency
  • International documents must be translated by certified credentials agency
  • Forward official college degree or college credits from accredited colleges to the Office of Registration
  • Receive you letter of acceptance.
  • Register for classes.
